If Mileage Had An IQ
While driving back from Abilene to Houston, over 700 miles, I was caught behind a wide load covering all lanes, east and west, with a top speed - once - of 45 mph. The rest of the time it ranged between 25 and 40 for a 27 mile stretch - took me an extra hour to get home but it was a pretty drive. Oncoming traffic moved into the bar ditch.
As a business owner it is necessary to track any mileage incurred for business - sometimes I forget to note it. So, to solve this problem, and finding some late evening time on my hands while visiting family in Abilene, I found an intelligent app called MileIQ.
I tried it out on my drive back from Abilene to Houston - it clocked 9 trips. So it is accurate. It somehow knew that in addition to my 2 intentional stops, it also tracked the 7 stops for road construction issues. It is smart because when I got back, I felt like I'd made 9 trips.
The MileIQ app reminds you to categorize your trips as personal or business (it's smart enough to know that if you need the app, then you must need to be reminded to categorize your trips).
The app requires that you leave your location turned on, an option on my smart phone. It tells you how many drives you've made, how many miles you've traveled, and the cost based on current IRS mileage rates. And, it lets you send a report for the month for expense purposes.
