The usual selection of recent articles:

• A typology of activities over a century of urban growth exploring the evolution of Paris covering the period of 1829-1907 based on this large-scale geo-historic data set.
• Another fresh piece from the arXiv, Compact 15-minute Cities are Greener, dives into the popular urban concept from from a data-driven perspective and aims to quantify the effectiveness of 15-minute areas in reducing car usage. They build on OpenStreetMap data.
• When it comes to map visualizations, sometimes having an inset map helps readers quite a lot - this GISGeography article tells you how to do it: Inset Map – A Map Within a Map!
• A fascinating study titled Deeply nested structure of mythological traditions worldwide brings together cultural anthropology and spatial analytics, for instance, by locating myths related to different animal species - biogeography.

• Connecting to the precious article, UrbanAI shared an article on Medium titled AI for Walkable Cities describes how they used machine learning tools to assess the impact of 48 street development projects on livability in the City of Buenos Aires.
• We can't really have enough AI solutions in spatial analytics these days. Hence, this article, Eco-Friendly AI: How to Reduce the Carbon and Water Footprints of Your ML Models on Towards Data Science, by Sydney Nye, highlights important considerations on the potential environmental impact of our models. Check it out!
• A potential application of that sort comes right here, Detecting Clouds with AI, by Carmen Adriana Martínez Barbosa, PhD. Show shows how to use models like RandomForest and Yolo to identify clouds on Sentinel-2 satellite images coming from ESA.

• And once you are done with cloud detection, take a look at this piece by KokaTic - Top Python Libraries for Satellite Image Processing in 2024. Which of these have you used before?
• Finally, an academic peace from Nature Geoscience - Solid Earth forcing of Mesozoic oceanic anoxic events. This piece is for those who would like to learn about These so-called abrupt phases of extreme oxygen depletion in the oceans that typically last ~1.5 million years. It's not the typical time-scales of urban analytics, so there are loads of new things to learn here!
