There is a super simple, yet extremely effective formula that we use to hire in SalesGenomics.
First of all, we’re only looking for people who are passionate about what they do and who are team players. People that are willing to learn and put in the time to understand things.
If someone doesn’t have a good attitude, they will never be a good fit, as they will only sabotage the work of the rest of the team.
Second: Ability. Whoever we hire must have the capacity to handle a very high learning curve and must possess the abilities to do a good job in the position they’re hired in. For example, a good Media Buyer must have an analytical mind, and a good Graphic Designer must be creative, etc.
Even if someone has the right attitude, but no ability, it won’t help them, as they won’t be able to handle the tasks handed to them.
Finally, there are skills the candidate has learned in previous work. It is ok if someone has no skills, as long as they have ability and attitude, because we can always teach them how to do the job. In fact, sometimes this is even better because they do not have ‘bad habits’ learned from previous jobs.
Sadly, a lot of companies have their recruitment process the other way around. They start with expertise, and think of attitude and ability later on. By doing so, they hire people that are not fit for growth and will face issues quickly.
Hope this helps you find good people to work for you!
