MIEV? Am I Peeved???
On a good day my MIEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle) gives me 40-45 miles of range.? How often do my wife and I have Range Anxiety?? ZERO. NAUGHT. NEVER!!!
How is that possible?? We use it as our around towner and we know how far we (and it) need to go.? NO problem.
What the EV world needs more than anything else is the $20K Bubble/hatchback that is the EV Beetle for every city and town in America and the world.
Think about how many Bubble/hatchbacks could be driving around for the batteries needed for 400 miles of range.? We have a PHEV Kia Niro . . . our long-distance car.? 25 miles of EV range on approx 10 kWh of batteries. 400 miles of range and you need 16 times the batteries.? How often does anyone need 400 miles of range?? Twice a year?? That’s about the number of times we put gas in the NIro in a year!
When if runs out of EV, the mixed hybrid mode is good for 60-400 mpg and a range of about 500 miles.
Californians pay a gas tax of more than 50 cents a gallon for “road improvements."?We’ve been doing that for about 15 years of more.? Do you know how many of the million$ have been spent on infrastructure?? Try ZERO!
California roads are crap. As bad or worse than the roads in the Midwest and East Coast.? Can you visualize what 6000 lb EVs are doing to our roads!? The batteries in the new Caddy EV SUV weigh more than a Honda Civic or Mitsubishi Mirage.? And that ain’t no optical delusion.
100-percent EVs is not the answer today.? Maybe someday . . .? Sales of EVs in California have flattened!? Can you afford the extra thou$and$ for an EV?? Do you live in a house where you can charge an EV? Ya think the folks in Montana are lining up to buy Teslas?? And how's the Supercharger serving you at 20 degrees below . . . ?
GM is rebooting PHEVS?? Have they seen the light?
How many contractors do you know who want an EV truck?
Meanwhile, across the Pacific, the Chinese are filling their roads with EV City Cars.?Cheap and many of them lead acid.? But if you do cars like this in the milliions, (obviously NOT lead acid) that pass required regs, affordable, 50-75 miles of range, basic features that everyone understands (minimal or no screens!!) I think I smell a business model!
