MidYear Review #2
'You can do anything but you can't do everything'
Every year in the month of July I take a moment to reflect. A moment to see the river flow and watch the leaves of the trees move in a gentle summer breeze. What have I done this year? When did I fail? What have I learned?
My favorite place to reflect is a bench just outside the village where I live. All is peaceful, in balance and in harmony. The meadows, the trees, the old church and the people passing by. But is it?
I learned three things in life:
- There is no balance
- There are only choices
- Choices have consequences
What weights most for you? What choices do you make? You can't do everything so you focus on what is most important for you. Consequently this means you have to let you, disappoint people and miss targets. So be it.
The choice I make is to make an impact on people just by being me. Trying to:
- Stay humble
- Work hard
- Be kind
That is what weights most for me. Perhaps I miss a great professional career but what remains is a great fulfilling life.
Do you agree?

6 年Excellent post Kees van der Ent. A fulfilling life is far better than the most illustrious career. For what is success in one person's view is mediocre in another. It is best to satisfy oneself only.
