We are only a few weeks away from Christmas, and the major supermarkets and international high-street brands are assailing us with TV Christmas ads.

They offer various ways to engage and persuade us to buy what they are selling.

The essence of an influential video, whether an international brand or from a solopreneur, is:

The most persuasive for me is ??????????????.

Here is an analysis.

??????????. It's caused much controversy. Leaning heavily to female empowerment and the LGBTQIA+ community. ???????????? ??????????????????

?????????????? – This features Ardman Animations Shaun the Sheep and a chorus line singing a Baa-bour Christmas song. John Lewis – This is a very risky ad featuring a man mourning his wife's loss. ???????????? + ?????????????? ??????????????????

?????????? – Blatant product placement. The message hashtag#FeedYourChristmasSpirit ?????????????? ??????????????????

??????????????????’?? – Features Roald Dahl’s The BFG, who sets out to make Christmas “a bit more fizwhizzy” with the help of a Sainsbury’s assistant. ???????????? + ??????????????

The following have been assessed and scored by The Grocer Magazine.

???????? Score: 15. With roads snowed under, an Asda worker calls in gnomes to get the store ready and provides the puns. ???????????? + ?????????????? ??????????????????

?????????????????? - Score:18. Singing oven gloves are back in Morrisons' 2024 festive ad as a family prepares the Christmas feast. ???????????? + ?????????????? ??????????????????

???????? Score: 15. Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot faces a mission to recover the spirit of Christmas after it’s stolen by ‘humbugs’, but still has time for bum and boob jokes.???????????? + ?????????????? ??????????????????

???????? Score: 13. Lidl's Toy Bank appeal is again the focus of its Christmas ad this year, asking if, alongside the feasts and joy, “Is it not more Christmassy to give?” ???????????? ?????????????????? + ??????????????
