In the midst of spring awakening

Dear Start-Up Community,

exciting days are behind us. Right before Easter break the 3rd edition of our Community Congresses hosted by StartUpSecure KASTEL took place where we were able to discuss relevant?cybersecurity topics with representatives from politics, science and business as well as with colleagues from our partner incubators CISPA and ATHENE. Here are some first impressions of the day.?

At the same time, three colleagues joined the START Summit in St. Gallen with two buses full of motivated KIT hackers and start-ups. Great news: Our hacker team "ctrl+alt+defeat" won the Cisco Challenge. Read more in the blog.?

As part of the TiL:Festivals, our first Founders’ Barbecue of the year will take place on May 16th. We are already looking forward to kick-off the barbecue season together with you and to network again.??

nono aims to digitalize the German sports club system. They team will focus first with handball and football clubs, where they will introduce?digital payment systems.?

Daniela talks to Ergin, Jonas and Pascal from the founding team about their beginnings at the PionierGarage startup tour in Israel in 2023 and their victory at the GROW competition in January 2024. Now the ball is rolling and the three have big plans.?

Startup Date with Daniel Jung?

Save the date and be there when education entrepreneur and math explainer Daniel Jung rocks Karlsruhe's Kronenplatz.?

Daniel Jung will be coming to Karlsruhe on June 27th to share insights into his entrepreneurial journey as a founder, math explainer, author and YouTuber. What is his personal mission, what motivates him? But also: Where is digital education in Germany heading and what role does AI play in it??

Turn2X opens first commercial facility?

Effective reduction of CO2 emissions: Turn2X, a technology participation of KIT, opened its first commercial biogas plant in Spain on March 15th. The goal of the KIT spin-off is to use the production of renewable natural gas (RNG) to reduce CO2 emissions. The technology for the sustainable production of the green energy source within the EU is the result of years of research by co-founder and CTO Dr Dominik Schollenberger at KIT. Together with his two co-founders and fellow KIT alumni Philip Kessler and Benedikt Stolz, the spin-off was founded in 2022.?

Meet these KIT start-ups at HMI 2024?

HMI 2024 is just around the corner and KIT-Gründerschmiede team will be there together with some of our KIT spin-offs. Two startups will present themselves every day in hall 2 at booth D30.?

We are pleased that the KIT spin-offs Formic, Spotium, Phabioc, nanoshape, Valoon, Phytonics GmbH, RevoAI GmbH as well as Varmo Sensor and Rement will join us this year.?

Circular Economy - Navigating Sustainable Growth?

What opportunities does circular economy offer to young companies? During our format?TECHimpulse in March hosted by TECH4Transition we talked with Léandre Berwa (co-founder and CEO of SLS Energy from Rwanda), Allen Mohammadi (co-founder and CEO of PlasticFri from Sweden and PhD student at the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Technology Management at KIT) and Mirko Ross (co-founder and CEO of the Stuttgart-based IT company Asvin) about the innovation potential of this relevant topic, the second life of a battery in Rwanda and the (in)possibility of repairing a tractor.?

Winter School 2024?

From?February 19th to 23rd, 28 students from eight universities participated in the Winter School on "Digital Healthcare Entrepreneurship". It was organized by our institute EnTechnon in collaboration with the Universities of Basel and Strasbourg. The participants had the task of developing digital solutions for challenges in the healthcare sector in international and interdisciplinary teams. The event offered a combination of theoretical foundations, practical applications and expert reports, covering topics such as entrepreneurship, business models and the legal framework for digital healthcare solutions. The final presentations covered a wide range of health topics - from mental health to dental hygiene - and showcased innovative digital solutions.?The event was made possible with the support of the EUCOR and EPICUR university alliances and EXIST funding.?

DWIH Incubators connect 2.0: A Journey of Insights and Inspiration?

From February 26th to March 1st, as part of our EXIST-funded internationalization program?GHPro, we were part of an intensive exploration tour of the Indian startup ecosystem and India's fascinating culture. Meetings with representatives from federal organizations such as Startup India, Atal Innovation Mission Official and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) gave us an excellent overview of India's mission in the startup space. With over 100,000 startups and more than 100 unicorns, the goal is clear: India is on track to grow its startup ecosystem, which is already the third largest in the world.?
