The Middle Three Paragraphs

Like most people, I try to be where I am, staying as present as possible wherever I am.?
For example, when at work I try to be a worker. When at home I try to be a husband (and dog walker). When at the Naval Academy, I try to support our kids.
Recently I was at the Naval Academy, this time for a parents weekend. During a briefing the Commandant, pictured in this iPhone photo, was updating parents on what their kids were doing. ?
I saw the slide above, and immediately thought of the business world. There was something about the middle three paragraphs. In those paragraphs I found applicability for more than the Brigade of Midshipmen.?
I’m looking at this photo a lot lately as a means of self-assessment. I’m not a Midshipmen, just trying to get a little better each day.? If I can answer in the affirmative to the three middle paragraphs below I know I had a good day. If I missed the mark I know a good place to restart and begin again.?
I think this Midshipman Ethos holds signposts for effective leadership and executive presence in the corporate world. Character; dignity; respect; accountability - sign me up to work for a leader who shows up to work every day with those attributes. Let me know what you think.
Human nature sometimes needs to be refocused to become fruitful. For the men and women becoming naval officers, their own actions will have direct and indirect outcomes on those they are responsible. Ownership of the Ethos makes it internal and a natural response. Imposing it fails at all levels.
