In this book we are introduced to Fai, Chang and Li Na, the three main characters of the MK series. They are misfits, stuck in a society where they neither excel or enjoy. As we learn their backstories we see each of them in a relatable but very different light.

As young adults they are just starting out in life, but quickly realize just how difficult it is. At this stage, each of them is alone, fed up and subconsciously eliminating all reason to stay. As they leave their old lives in modern China behind, they embark on an ambitious journey, powered by a mysterious sequence of events.

Fai, Chang and Li Na quickly find themselves in the Middle Kingdom. A land where the ancient Song dynasty never fell, but thrived. In turn the Song’s rate of development, technological advancements and progressive society far exceeds anything the three were used to. With this futuristic level of progress, the Song are a proud people and blend their high tech with a deep, very traditional world. As Fai, Chang and Li Na come to explore this new civilisation their dynamic relationship evolves alongside their own personal development. It is within this magical and beautiful world that Fai, Chang and Li Na also find their true purpose.

Middle Kingdom connects you to a thousand years of history, a truly exciting saga and three characters who you will grow to love. It introduces you to something rare, what it is we can’t quite tell, whether it be the lost knowledge, mystery or other worldly adventure, you come away needing more… and the good thing is, there is plenty more. You can tell it’s special from the first few pages. But when you really become engaged in the plot and story, it becomes clear that this series has somehow managed to capture something in it’s pages that few other books have. It breathes life back into ancient fables, folklore and the stories which shaped the world we live in now, whilst keeping it interesting. It takes you to places that are beyond the imagination, yet keeps it comprehensible with real life people and history. This blend of fact and fantasy only enhance the amount of pull this story has. Whether it is the world creation, ancient orient, interwoven history or genuine mystery, the story is detailed, fantastical and potentially dark. It makes you feel something as you read it, wherever you happen to come from and whatever your interest in the genre.??
