Middle Eastern Promise

Middle Eastern Promise

London International Shipping Week is expected to attract a large delegation of Middle Eastern companies and key government players in direct response to a series of visits and meetings taking place last week, this week and next week in Oman, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia by the LISW25 team.

Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes, Joint CEO of Shipping Innovation (SI) and co-Founder of LISW, and SI Director, Lesley Bankes-Hughes, spent last week in Muscat visiting key maritime stakeholders which have committed to supporting LISW25.

This week, they were joined in Dubai at ship.energy’s Middle Eastern Bunkering Convention (MEBC25) by LISW Commercial and Operations Director, Andy Snell, and LISW25 International Partner sponsor, SOHAR Port and Freezone, which supported and played an important role in the event. Dr Abdullah Sulaiman Al-Abri, Vice President for Sustainability at SOHAR Port and Freezone, leading the organisation’s sustainability initiatives, was one of MEBC’s key speakers, while Haitham Al Tamimi, Lead for Marine Services and Shipping at SOHAR?Port and Freezone, outlined the port’s commercial strategies to enhance marine services to ensure SOHAR’s position as a leader in innovation and operational excellence in the maritime industry.

Among other contributors to MEBC25 were speakers representing committed LISW25 sponsors, notably Mark Lakin, Partner at Stephenson Harwood Middle East LLP and Chris Greenwood, Vice President – Survey & Inspection, Inchcape Shipping Services.

Over the next week, Andy Snell will be visiting Saudi Arabia for high-level meetings in Riyadh with the Saudi Transportation Authority and Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization.

He will also travel to meet Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), which has come on board as Innovation Sector Partner and key participant in the LISW25 Global Hub.

Andy will also be joining the ADNOC Breakbulk Middle East Golf Day. Anyone in or visiting Dubai over the next week, or attending the Breakbulk Middle East event who wants to learn more about LISW25 and the Middle East involvement in the event, is invited to contact Andy on [email protected].
