These mid-year reviews will spur you on

How often do you pause and reflect on everything you've achieved?

As the second half of the year began, I asked LinkedIn members to give themselves a mid-year review, and share it. Why? Executive Coach Jac Phillips says we all need to look back before we can plan for the future.

“It’s easier to adjust your goals from a place of strength and joy than failure and disappointment," she says on LinkedIn. "I would urge people to go through each month of 2023 so far and pick out what’s been good, what you have done, and where you have made strides.”

So, how are we doing, collectively? For many, the last six months have been a time of change.

Jesse Oey says that even though his year thus far contained, “no incredible breakthroughs, big awards, personal epiphanies, or the delivery of massive projects,” he’s still proud because he's been cultivating a sense of purpose and prioritising his health.

“Hand on heart, now I no longer feel like I can't see the forest for the trees. For the first time in a little while, I can make out a pathway ahead — winding, but walkable," he said.

Angel Iyke-Osuji is also focusing on personal growth.

“I am so proud that I did not give up on myself or let the disappointment of not hitting some of my goals stop me from moving forward," she tells LinkedIn.

"There were times when I just wanted to give up because it was too hard, and I wasn't seeing any results. I am proud of how confident I have become, the bold steps I have taken, and the mindset shift I have experienced in the past year."

Ali Killaly says she’s taking the good with the bad.

“I dropped the ball, tried to give up, got spewed on right before going on stage, left things to the last minute, took it all too personally, wondered why, wondered how, wondered if.

"While I was doing all that, I also launched a business, a podcast, did a dash of public speaking and submitted the final assignment of my grad cert.

"I’m keen to celebrate the chaos a little more, knowing that neat often doesn’t get me where I want to be."

For Dr Karen Sutherland (SFHEA) , her greatest achievement was meeting a publishing deadline for an upcoming book, while Jengoa Agina-Obu, PhD started studying law. Mitchell Nunis got to finally meet remote workmates in person and James Armstrong is navigating a team through the 'new normal' of finance.

We are all on our own career paths, and by sharing our mid-year reviews, we're letting our network know who we are, what we care about and open a door for them to offer help.

Ali Killaly: I couldn't agree more with your perspective on celebrating chaos! It's refreshing to see someone embrace the idea that neatness doesn't always lead us to where we want to be. Sometimes, the best opportunities and growth come from navigating through chaos and unpredictability. Some of the most significant achievements in history have emerged from moments of chaos and uncertainty. Embracing it with a positive mindset and an adaptive approach can truly set us apart in our journey to success. I wish you continued success in all your endeavors, and I look forward to more engaging discussions like this in the future!
