Mid Life Myth Busting

Mid Life Myth Busting

Midlife is the best time of our life, Right? ?The kids have flown and the time is now ours. We can step out into the world, to make a difference, change career, go it alone, go on a retreat, learn a new skill, buy a sports car – ok my husband did that one too – but for many of us once we hit our mid 40s, we hit the season of Menopause and although we are ready to celebrate the wise woman that we are, our body has a different idea, right?

We feel as if we've awaked inside a body that we don’t recognise, putting weight on, seemingly overnight. Our energy levels drop, we can’t sleep and we can’t handle stress like we used to. Our body aches and we start to develop health issues & worry irrationally about the future....am I going to get cancer, dementia....am I ever going to stop the weight piling on??

These experiences can be deeply distressing, I don’t have to tell you that one!

Thankfully the knowledge and tools to prevent health issues before they occur, reverse disease and decrease the menopausal middle are out there – I made it my mission to find them and implement them and I can help you do the same

So let’s start now and bust a few myths:

Throughout our lives, as woman we tend to focus our attention on how much we weigh and whether we can we still fit into our jeans. We have generally tried many of the hundreds of diets that are available, I know I had.

Myth 1. Weight gain is a result of eating too much and not exercising enough – the old calories in calories out model.

Myth 1 Busted ???? Weight gain is a symptom of an imbalance that is going on in the body, generally caused by a poor diet, stress, toxicity...and some dodgy hormone levels

Myth 2. It’s OK, everyone puts on weight at this time of their life

Myth 2 Busted ???? Partly right, most people do gain weight – women and men – but it’s not OK. Remember; excess weight is a symptom of an imbalance in the body and if we don’t correct the imbalance, this is where we can go on to develop a chronic disease such as cancer, stroke, heart attack or dementia, not to mention Type 2 diabetes.

Myth 3. There is nothing we can do, diets don’t work anymore.

Myth 3 Busted ???? Ok, partly right again, diets don’t work, which I am quite thankful for as deprivation is wrong, the body doesn’t like it, the brain doesn’t like it and it’s, just WRONG. BUT there is so much we can do - At this time of life we need to nourish our body, our brain and our soul. Sugar is the bad guy, I’m not going to lie, sugar plays no part in nourishment, but there are plenty of beautiful foods we can eat, beautiful meditations we can do, spending time with beautiful people, enjoying our work and our play – all of these things, and more will help to rebalance and the weight gain will slow down until it stops.

Oh and there is also the 80:20 rule, eat & do the good stuff 80% of the time and eat & do what we fancy the other 20% - eat cake, drink wine, gin, veg out on the sofa and watch Netflix – ok that’s what I do, but eating and living well is not about deprivation or punishment, much more about being aware of what we need, taking control of our own health and wellbeing with a sprinkling of patience and kindness thrown in for good measure.
