Private equity firm Mid Europa Partners is reportedly looking to sell the Romanian retail chain Profi for €1 billion. The firm has hired investment bank Citi to find a buyer, sources close to the talks told Romanian daily Ziarul Financiar. It is unclear why the private equity firm is now looking to sell Profi, but the sale could be part of a broader portfolio restructuring. Several strategic players are looking at the chain, including international players with a local presence such as Ahold Delhaize (owner of Mega Image), Auchan, and Carrefour, among others. According to the daily, Polish retailers such as Biedronka, Dino, or Zabka also have Romania on their list of plans.
British consumer confidence has tumbled this month after rising to its highest since the start of 2022 in September, reflecting households' renewed concerns about the outlook for their personal finances and the broader economy. The GfK consumer confidence index, Britain's longest-running survey of its type, dropped to a three-month low of -30 in October from September's reading of -21. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a modest improvement to -20, and the nine-point drop was the largest since a one-off survey GfK did at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Dino Polska has agreed to acquire a 75% equity stake in online drugstore retailer eZebra. The deal is expected to close by 31 March 2024, upon obtaining the consent of the president of the Polish office of competition and consumer protection to acquire the shares.
