Investigation Update on Nairobi Midair Collision

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority announced on March 6, 2024, the initiation of a thorough investigation into the midair collision that occurred on March 5, 2024, involving a Safarilink Aviation Dash 8-300 and a Cessna 172 over Nairobi National Park, Kenya. Both aircraft had departed from Nairobi Wilson Airport; the Dash 8 safely returned after the incident, while the Cessna, on a training flight with two onboard, fatally crashed. Led by the Air Accident Investigation Department and the National Police Service, the probe aims to uncover the collision's causes and develop safety recommendations to prevent future occurrences. IATA Releases IOSA Audit Handbook Update

Yesterday, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has published the 16th edition, revision 1, of the IOSA Audit Handbook Tables and Mandatory Observations, designated as being effective since 2nd Februar 2024. Key changes include the reorganization and clarification of ISARPs (IOSA Standards and Recommended Practices), adjustments in interlinked tables, and additions to mandatory observation checklists, specifically enhancing flight operations and passenger/baggage security protocols. This revision also addresses the process for monitoring external service providers and makes several corrections and adjustments across the document, aiming to streamline compliance and elevate the safety and efficiency of airline operations globally. JetBlue A321 Tail Strike Incident at Saint Lucia

On March 2nd, 2024, a JetBlue Airbus A321-200, registered as N991JT, performing flight B6-1681 from New York JFK, NY, USA to Saint Lucia, experienced a tail strike on a go-around attempt at very low height during final approach to Saint Lucia's runway 10. After the incident, the aircraft safely climbed to approximately 2500 feet, made another approach, and landed without further incidents. The FAA is investigating the incident, with the aircraft remaining grounded in Saint Lucia three days post-event, and the extent of the damage is currently undetermined.
