Microwave Thinking

Microwave Thinking

Or to put it another way the “Instant Results” syndrome!

We have now been conditioned to expect immediate gratification in just about all areas of life

  • 1-hour glasses
  • Same day delivery
  • To the mundane like instant hot water 24 hours a day
  • Any film or tv program at the push of a couple of buttons or mouse clicks
  • Immediate contact with anyone, anywhere in the world (just think about that for a minute…)

You need to learn to lose that sense of entitlement with regards to getting where you want in life. Yes, it could happen immediately, you could win the lottery, but you almost certainly won’t. For every big Euro Millions jackpot winner, there are tens of millions who get nothing, or they lose if you prefer.

The odds are not in your favour.

Even those athletes who appear to have it all because they are naturally gifted – it only seems that way. What you don’t see is the constant routine and drudgery of early mornings, long hard training sessions, systematic reviews followed by yet more very long hours of hard work.

All the setbacks along the way you never get to hear about – when Usain Bolt steps up and runs for 9.7 seconds to win yet another gold medal, it is the thousands and thousands of hours that he spent along the way that got him there.

It’s the same with property – you might get very lucky and buy a house in the right place at the right time and it doubles in value in 3-4 years. Or you can take the more realistic view long term view and build a portfolio to provide income now and into the future while building LONG-TERM growth.
