Microsoft unveils AI-powered Bing model like ChatGPT

You're reading? The Vital Component, a breakdown of the week's engineering news delivered to your inbox. I’m Loukia, an editor at IE. Let's dive in.

This week we are discussing?Microsoft's introduction of an AI-powered Bing model ‘more powerful’ than ChatGPT, how a US jet shot a mysterious flying object over Canada, the second in just two days, and MAD architects' new design for a Chinese airport that resembles a floating feather. And as usual, we have five extra stories for you to enjoy.

Check out?Lexicon, the new engineering podcast from Interesting Engineering.

Right on the heels of Google announcing Artificial Intelligence chatbot Bard, Microsoft has beefed up its search engine Bing with the latest AI sensation, OpenAI's ChatGPT.

"Search has remained the same since the last major inflection," Microsoft corporate VP Yusuf Mehdi said at the event on Tuesday announcing the update, adding that "the user experience is the same as 20 years ago."

For almost two decades, Google's search engine market has had a highly successful run, facing almost zero competition from rivals. That could all change with the new upgraded Bing and Edge browser that has integrated the same technology created by the developers of ChatGPT.

U.S. and Canada jointly shot down a mysterious unidentified object flying illegally close to Canadian airspace on Saturday, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has confirmed.

The cylindrical object was discovered on Friday evening by NORAD, which led to its intercept by American and Canadian jets, according to Pentagon.?

"I ordered the takedown of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted on Sunday.?

Beijing-based MAD architects announced on Instagram on Tuesday that they won the contract to build the first large-scale air transportation junction for the new terminal of Changchun airport. The firm will now aim to create a green and sustainable structure that can accommodate all passenger needs.

The new site consists of 177.6 hectares with a building area of nearly 270,000 square meters and is located in Changchun, a city well-known as the international, regional hub in Northeast Asia with a population of 23 million.?

Is it close enough to a human bing to make dad jokes? This is how we’ll know it is getting dangerous.
