Microsoft Team - "Did you know?"

Helpful tips and insight on Microsoft 0365 Teams

The TEAMS administrator who configures the security settings, and all the members of the affected groups, must have Azure AD Premium licenses assigned to them. So, unless you have AD Premium you cannot control who creates groups. Create your Azure free account today. Get started with 12 months of free services

Be sure to use a security group to restrict who can create groups. If you try to use an Office 365 Group, members won't be able to create a group from SharePoint because it checks for a security group.

Record online meetings (always seek consent of team members/clients) which can be viewed again or shared with team members to watch at a later stage. We find this a helpful feature to review the ‘fine’ details of client’s specifications when creating project proposals.

Meeting notes can be inputted directly into Teams A few things to keep in mind:


  1. Only people in the same org as the meeting organizer will be able to start or access meeting notes.
  2. Meeting notes are available for up to 20 people. If a meeting has more than 20 people, only the first 20 will have access to notes.
  3. Only people who are invited to a meeting before notes are created will have access to them. People invited later won't have access.

People external to your business, can be invited to join a Teams meeting. However, you have to be the Team owner to add people external to the organisation to the conversation.

Add a Tab, you can connect / add a tab to Team feed channels – i.e. a document, website, SharePoint Site, external website, Power BI Report, etc.

Analytics on each Team channels activity, really helpful for a manager to be able to review the teams participation.

Translate messages, there are 39 to choose to select – select the three dots on the right top hand side of the message and scroll to TRANSLATE, select the language you require.

Save a message or content so can revert to at a later stage. In addition, you can pin a message to appear at the top of a feed, so it is there for colleagues to easily access.
