Microsoft SQL Server 2017 is Here

SQL Server 2017 is here as of October 2nd. Those with active Software Assurance will have access immediately via the Volume License Service Center. 

Editions

-         Will remain the same with Enterprise and Standard Editions. Developer options will also continue to be free downloads.

Pricing

-         There are no planned price changes from the 2016 release

Platforms

-         SQL will now support multiple operating systems with the addition of Linux and Docker containers

Microsoft Machine Learning Server for Hadoop

-         For every core of SQL Enterprise Edition clients will receive 5 additional servers to install the Microsoft Machine Learning Server.

-         This is only available to SQL Enterprise Edition licenses in the Core model with Active Software Assurance

New SQL Features

-         AI is now built in with R Server and Python as noted above in the Microsoft Machine Learning Server.

-         Adaptive Query Processing has been added to improve day to day performance by tracking and learning from previous queries.

-         Power BI Reporting Server is now enabled to provide reporting and dashboards and will work alongside SSRS as part of Enterprise Edition.
