Microsoft revamps Copilot, Meta teases Movie Gen, Google unveils NotebookLM, Spotlight on Mustafa Suleyman

  • Tue 10.1.04: Microsoft revamps AI Copilot with new voice, reasoning capabilities. Copilot, Microsoft's AI assistant, now has a more amiable voice in its latest update, with the chatbot also capable of analyzing web pages for interested users as they browse. The release points to its larger vision for consumer artificial intelligence services. Two new features stand out: 1) Copilot Voice is designed for smoother and more fluid back-and-forth conversations, with faster responses and the ability for users to interrupt and redirect the discussion, and 2) Copilot Daily is an audio feature that gives users a personalized daily briefing, including news, weather, and other information to start their day.

  • Wed 10.2.24: Accenture announced a new partnership with chip leader Nvidia . Accenture aims to help clients jump-start their agentic AI journeys while a network of engineering hubs in Europe, Asia, and North America will support the effort.
  • Fri 10.4.24: Meta revealed Meta Movie Gen , Meta’s new family of generative multimodal AI models that can make both video and audio from text prompts, and allow users to customize their own videos, adding special effects, props, costumes and changing select elements simply through text guidance. Meta’s tests, outlined in a technical paper , showed that it outperforms the leading rivals in the space including Runway Gen 3, Luma Dream Machine, OpenAI Sora and Kling 1.5 on many audience ratings of different attributes such as consistency and “naturalness” of motion. While it's not being released yet, Meta aims to debut this advanced GenAI video creation tool with Instagram in 2025.

According to a Financial Times analysis of payments information from fintech group Stripe, top AI groups are reaching millions of dollars in sales within a year — far faster in a start-up’s life cycle than comparable non-AI tech groups. The data indicates that young AI companies have more momentum than other highly-hyped tech start-ups from past eras, particularly in the “software-as-a-service” category. AI start-ups that have scaled to more than $30mn in annualised revenue achieved the milestone in 20 months — five times faster than past SaaS companies.? Also of note, the demand for generative AI is also global. According to the Stripe data, about 56 per cent of AI companies’ revenues came from overseas.

I also thought OpenAI Canvas was interesting. It shows how they can take on enterprise workspace tool advantages of MSFT and Google let alone Salesforce, Adobe, Canva, etc. If you want to be someone's assistant it is much more logical to do that inside the tools you are already using than have to go to something external.
