1. Intelligent Chat Message Translation in Teams iOS and Android

This is a characteristic of intelligent translation, when a communication is not in a language that the user understands, Microsoft Teams Mobile will urge them to translate it. This functionality will be available on both iOS and Android devices.

When this will happen:

  • This update will begin rolling out in early August and is expected to be completed by late September.

What you need to do to prepare:

  • Since this update will be turned on automatically, there is no action needed from you. Microsoft recommends making your users aware of this feature and updating any necessary documentation if required.


2. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Linux and macOS – Mandatory Update to ‘Required’ URLs List

Microsoft recently?announced?the general availability and gradual roll-out of their enhanced anti-malware engine for Linux and macOS.

Note:?If your organization is not using Linux or macOS, you can safely disregard this message.

When this will happen:

  • Starting July 31, 2022, access to certain Microsoft URLs will be?*required*?to ensure uninterrupted cloud-delivered protection on your Linux and macOS systems behind a proxy.

What you need to do to prepare:

  • Your security/IT team must set up your network/proxy/internet settings to enable connections between your endpoints and specified Microsoft URLs for Microsoft Defender Antivirus cloud-delivered protection to function properly. To support the new Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Linux and macOS anti-malware engine enhancements, you must allow a list within the proxy ecosystem in your environment of the following URL endpoints:

  1. go.microsoft.com
  2. definitionupdates.microsoft.com
  3. https://www.microsoft.com/security/encyclopedia/adlpackages.aspx
  4. *.wdcp.microsoft.com
  5. *.wd.microsoft.com


3.?Retirement of Exchange Online PowerShell with MFA

Microsoft will be retiring "the Exchange Online PowerShell module with MFA" on December 31, 2022.

Support for the Module will end on August 31, 2022.

Microsoft recommends using the Exchange Online PowerShell V2 module (EXO V2 module), which uses modern authentication and supports accounts with or without MFA.

When this will happen:

  • End of support: August 31, 2022
  • Retirement: December 31, 2022

What you need to do to prepare:

4. AAD Security Reader Role in Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps - Alignment with Microsoft 365 Defender

The AAD "Security Reader" job can currently manage Microsoft Defender alerts for Cloud Apps, but it can only see warnings from all other security workloads. To clarify and avoid misunderstanding, the AAD "Security Reader" role update will now be matched with the AAD job description.

When this will happen:

  • As of August 28, 2022, this update will come into effect.????????

What you need to do to prepare:

  • To continue to manage alerts, the users’ role should be updated to an AAD “Security Operator”. You may want to notify your users about this change and update your training and documentation as appropriate.


5.?Microsoft Defender for Office 365: Update to Quarantine retention period for Malware detections

Given input from Microsoft Defender customers about the need for more time to triage emails or files quarantined because of potential malware, Microsoft is increasing the retention term from 15 to 30 days.

When this will happen:

  • Standard Release: will begin rolling this out by the end of July and expect to complete it by late August.
  • Government: will begin rolling out by mid-August and expect to be complete by mid-September.

What you need to do to prepare:

  • You may consider updating your training and documentation as appropriate.


6.?Microsoft Teams Real-Time Analytics-Extended Telemetry Preview

IT administrators may note that the Microsoft Teams Real-Time Analytics history is now available for 7 days rather than the customary 24 hours. This is part of an ongoing public preview of this functionality before releasing as part of the Microsoft Teams?Advanced Communications add-on license.

When this will happen:

  • This feature is currently available as part of a public preview.

What you need to do to prepare:

  • Microsoft advises IT administrators to use Real-Period Analytics to support Microsoft Teams users in their businesses during this time and to assess the benefits of the extended history. IT administrators should think about purchasing the Advanced Communications add-on license if they intend to keep using the extended history.


7.?Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle

Going forward, retention labels published to a SharePoint site connected to a group will need the retention label to publish policy to pick the "Microsoft 365 Groups" location to increase consistency between how retention labels and policies operate on SharePoint sites. When this change goes into effect, the dropdown option for the appropriate group-connected sites will only display retention labels that have been published to "Microsoft 365 Groups" locations.

When this will happen:

  • The roll-out will start in mid-August and is expected to be complete by the end of August.

What you need to do to prepare:

  • If you have retention labels that are only published to SharePoint site locations and need them to be visible for group-connected sites, make sure that the Microsoft 365 Groups location is selected on the policy.
  • If you have retention labels that you would like to only show on non-group connected SharePoint sites, confirm that the Microsoft 365 Groups location is not selected on the policy.
  • Labels published to Microsoft 365 Groups will apply to group-connected SharePoint sites as well as the group mailboxes. If you do not wish to have labels available in the group mailboxes, this can be configured by using PowerShell cmdlets.
  • No action is needed to enable this change; however, you may want to communicate this change to your users or the team responsible for Data Lifecycle Management and Records Management at your organization.?
  • You can access the Data Lifecycle Management and Records Management solutions in the?Microsoft Purview compliance portal.
