Microsoft Ignite 2024
Our Dufrainian Colin Gresham has shared some of his top highlights from Microsoft Ignite 2024. Its hot on new technology and advances. Link below to the infamous Book of News too for the rest of the highlights.
Keynote
"In the age of AI data governance takes up an even more crucial role"
The keynote from this year's event heavily leans into the advantages that can be leveraged by the successful implementation of AI within an organisation. By increasing collaboration and eliminating technology barriers, Microsoft Copilot features help people achieve these benefits.
Although the benefits of AI are clearly attractive, achieving them is not easy. The processing of more data and outsourcing insight curation to AI agents increases the level of possible risks associated with AI-driven data decisions. Managing and governing your organisation's data effectively is the key to making the most of the AI revolution. Having confidence in the foundational qualities of your organisation's data provides the platform for taking advantage of it.
Trying to expedite the implementation of AI without putting in these hard yards could be really painful. Understanding and implementing #Purview will be an important part of many transformation projects in coming years to help tackle many of the emerging challenges as we shift to a more AI centric landscape.
Fabric
“To take advantage of AI you need your data to rendezvous with your AI agent” Microsoft are doubling down on #Fabric being the vehicle by which organisations will take advantage of AI. By bringing all of a businesses data into a central unified platform and optimising it for consumption by AI agents, a holistic view of key data can be compiled with minimal effort. The announcement of #FabricDatabases this now provides functionality across analytics, Real Time insight and also Transactional analysis, removing some key barriers to Fabric adoption for some organisations.
Copilot Analytics
How do you measure the benefit of AI to an organisation? In an attempt to assist with generating the business case for Copilot, Microsoft released #CopilotAnalytics, which correlates usage metrics with business outcomes to demonstrate how increased use of Copilot relates to key performance indicators. The ability to monitor this will assist in the identification and sharing of best practices that drive positive outcomes accelerating and improving the adoption of AI within a business.
In addition, our Consulting Director Mike Haresnape had this to say on his post from Ignite – ‘I'm on the train creating my own Copilot agents to demonstrate the ease and pace by which we can solve data challenges now... and it will only get better! Less than 5 minutes and my agent can now proactively scan our Dufrain sharepoint for PII (personally identifiable information) as defined by the ICO... At Dufrain we're already working to embed Copilot agents into our accelerators and data products we deliver to our clients’.

Real Time Hub & Events
Another exciting announcement at #MicrosoftIgnite 2024, RTI promises to offer a comprehensive suite for streaming data. Ingestion, processing and visualising data in real-time will enable organisations to make timely decisions for live data.
Real-Time Hub will provide users with the ability to connect, explore, and take actions on streaming data. Users will also be able to leverage Copilot to create real-time dashboards quickly, significantly shortening the time to insight.
Another development on the horizon is Real-Time Events support, users will also be able to build event-driven applications and automate workflows in response to specific events. This release now provides adopters of Fabric with the ability to tailor their analytical approach to each use case while being powered by a singular unified platform.
Time critical analysis driven by real-time intelligence or longer term more holistic analysis through Power BI are now both achievable in one place, whereas historically tool selection for disparate use cases may have led to selecting multiple technologies or singular platforms with greater compromises to tackle these challenges.
Excitingly, Microsoft's investment here now provides a real unified approach to the widest range of analytical challenges with the ability to scale for large organisations.
More insights and updates coming soon, so like this posts to keep up to date!
