Microsoft Fabric December 2023 Update
Well they managed to get it released just before Christmas.? Well done Microsoft.
As per usual the Fabric update includes the Power BI one so if you have caught up with my article or the official Microsoft video, you can skip to 13:20 in the video contained here:
Most of the updates this month are what we would refer to as “plumbing”: They are important to ensure fast and consistent performance and greater flexibility but they are largely invisible to us.? We just enjoy the constant, hotter and faster running water. ??
Two elements caught my attention that I am sure will improve our experiences:
Fabric Admin API’s
These are a new release this month and will be welcomed by our hard working back room staff.? Administration in Fabric and Power BI has not always been easy and I suspect this API introduction to be the start of an improved experience for our admins.

New supported items for git integration and deployment pipelines
Git and deployment pipelines are important elements for governance of our data estate and it is good to see Notebooks and Lakehouses being added to the family of objects that we can control with git and deployment pipelines.
Certification & Challenge
Finally I wanted to mention that the DP-600 (beta) exam will launch on Thursday, January 11, 2024. The DP-600 exam is required to become a Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate.?
There is also a Microsoft Fabric Challenge (part of the Microsoft Ignite | Cloud Skills Challenge) that you can sign up to in order to start preparing for the new exam.
