Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 Upgrades – Expectations and the Future

The announcement of Microsoft’s Project “Madeira” sure has given the Microsoft Dynamics NAV community something more to buzz about. Currently, Project Madeira has a subset of the capabilities included in Microsoft Dynamics NAV, leading many to believe that it’s actually a code named NAV 2017. With conversation swirling, it’s an interesting time to think about the future of NAV and what it holds for the community, especially as users become increasingly curious about NAV 2016 upgrades.
Microsoft has sold an easy upgrade story for NAV 2016, but what’s the reality? With a majority of NAV installations being on premise and heavily customized, how are the results sizing up against the expectations? According to Mark Brummel, Microsoft Dynamics NAV MVP, if you’re running NAV 2015 and the customization’s have been done using the best practices that are now available, then “the technical part of the upgrade is easier than ever before.” However, Brummel noted, “the functional part can still be time consuming if you want to implement new features or if you want to replace customization’s with standard code.”
