Microsoft is changing how Microsoft 365 Apps select the built-in client for sensitivity labeling and the traditional Azure Information Protection (AIP) add-in.

All users of this add-in will be transferred to the contemporary, built-in interface for sensitivity labels in Office beginning with version 2212 in the Office Current Channel and Monthly Enterprise Channel. This version is scheduled to be released in mid/late January 2023. This will ease the admin setting of sensitivity labels for Office documents and significantly boost end-user productivity due to speed improvements. You must install a new Office configuration to expressly enable the AIP add-in to be used for reading and applying labels in Office for users who need to continue using the AIP add-in during its support lifespan.

You may deploy the new configuration setting using group policy or cloud policy. Set this to allow the AIP add-in to supply sensitivity labels after the minimal version is deployed. The AIP add-in will be deactivated by default for users in the Office Insider Beta channel.
