On July 30, 2024, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 experienced a global outage starting at 13:13 UTC, affecting services across various regions including the United States, Europe, Asia, and more. The issue caused timeouts and connectivity problems, prompting multiple engineering teams to investigate and resolve it. The outage also impacted Microsoft 365 services, including the admin center, Intune, Entra, and Power Platform. Microsoft implemented network configuration changes and failovers to alternate paths to mitigate the problem, with ongoing monitoring and updates provided via their status page and social media channels. The root cause was identified as a spike in usage affecting Azure Front Door components, leading to performance issues.
