Microsoft revealed new features for Outlook Lite and support for SMS for users in India on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Microsoft announced support for SMS for users in India as well as new features for Outlook Lite. Additionally, Outlook Lite supports Indian vernacular languages so that users can communicate efficiently.

With features like voice typing, transliteration, and reading emails in regional languages, Outlook Lite is inclusive and sensitive to the varied linguistic needs of Indian users, according to the company. These features make it simpler for users to write and read emails in their preferred language. "Outlook Lite redefines communication accessibility and gives users a more convenient & personalized experience with SMS integration and vernacular language support," stated in a statement Rajiv Kumar, MD of Microsoft India Development Center and Corporate Vice President of Microsoft's Experiences and Devices, India Group.

Outlook Lite allows users to dictate emails in Hindi, type emails in Tamil and have them automatically converted to English or read emails in Gujarati. It will soon support more Indian languages in addition to the five that it currently supports: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati.

Microsoft stated that in order to continue serving India's linguistic diversity, more languages and dialects will be added in the future. Additionally, Outlook Lite's SMS support will make it easier for users to consume transactional and promotional information by organizing messages into categories like transactions, promotions, and personal.

Users can quickly navigate between categories and view pertinent messages in one location. Additionally, this feature will remind them of upcoming appointments, reservations for travel, bills, and gas, all of which often get overlooked in the deluge of information. Soon, Outlook Lite will also allow users to translate SMS messages into their preferred language and flip between them with a single tap.
