Microservices, the new disaster on the block

Author: Gordon Byron, CEO

The world of technology changes so fast and so often - what you do today may be considered a terrible idea in 2 or 3 years time. I think what we need to do, as tech leaders, is to make the most pragmatic decisions to allow for change. If we take this into account we will be able to be agile with our technology.

Microservices is the new kid on the block and has taken the world by storm. Almost every company that is currently busy with a digital transformation is moving to this new architecture and expecting it will solve all their problems. I cannot disagree, this architecture is a step in the right direction but Microservices done wrong can be a supreme disaster.

Microservices require a strategic architecture and without this you are heading down a road of pain. Do your research, take your time and it can be the best decision you ever made.

Domain driven design (DDD) is a great approach when architecting Microservices and I strongly suggest whoever is embarking on this type of transformation to spend some time researching it.

Microservices without a strategy is just a route to a distributed mess.
