In my pocket there is always a sheet of paper with hand written the following list:
My Commandments (written on the 22-8-2005):
- Complete everything that you have started, no matter if it’s important or futile.
- Be determined in everything you do.
- Don’t give yourself limits or barriers and think always Big.
- Think before doing the first step, consider pro and con, but once you made the step, have no regret.
- In every situation play a role; don’t settle to be a spectator.
- Be honest with yourself and with others.
- Demand yourself always the maximum; do not settle for mediocrity and poor results.
- Make sure that you come across the way you are. Don’t give people a false image of yourself.
- Do not hide if you are shame of something. It won’t disappear and overtime it will hurt more and more. Make sure through your actions you correct the cause of shame.
- Make sure you block time of your day for Action in order to turn dreams and ideas into reality.
- When you face major problems, do not surrender, step back to reconsider all available options and dive back in with great strength and never-ending energy
Have you ever felt that feeling of falling into your comfort zone and entering into Mediocrity?
Before wasting valuable time, I have learnt to micromanage myself out of Mediocrity.
Nowadays, with the multiplication of material on self-improvement, we can all figure a way to achieve Awesomeness in our lives. The issue is that despite knowing what we have to do, we still decide not to do it.
We could dive into a “pain and pleasure” conversation as well as a motivation or goal setting conversation, but the matter of the fact is that what get us stuck often is the lack of momentum.
Once you turn things into action and action into momentum, everything becomes simpler and smoother.
I was recently researching about turning things into action and part of my research brought me to look backward at my past, scanning my notes and looking at my material. I have realised that the "Commandments list" was always present.
Over time, I have slightly modified the list to accommodate different needs, but the method worked every time to give me those push.
It works this way:
- Think of everything that frustrates you and prevents you from feeling great;
- Think of the action that you have to take to turn that around (or ask your mentors for what the solution looks like);
- Turn the action into an Imperative;
- Add it to the list;
- Learn the list by heart and make it your “life policy”;
- Act on it;
You have to stick to your newly created commandments.
The Consequence for breaking “Your Commandments” is the feeling of letting yourself down, nothing more, nothing less.
This simple method has helped me in the years to kick things into action.
It has also brought me out of Mediocrity and into Awesomeness several times and I hope it can serve you as much as it has served me.

9 年Hi Daniel, thanks for your comment. We are more and more growing into a society where if you ask for help, someone will answer. You may not have the specific solution to your problems, but you will likely receive inputs that will get you on the right track. I am a direct example of people available to give support: for over 2 years I have been providing coaching and mentoring with my non for profit and I am still doing it in the spare time. Knowing yourself often boils down to asking you the right questions. I am writing a book on this, I'll take a note to send you a copy once it's published ;-) Take care!
