Micro-business Social Media | Ed.23 | The Branders Diary

Hello you lovely lot!

In this weeks newsletter I wanted to go into social media for micro businesses. Yesterday I did a Social Media Q&A at LoveBiz Networking? UK Limited and discovered how scary it can be for business owners to take on Social Media whilst running their own business.

Social media has become an essential tool for micro businesses to reach their target audience. However, it's important to focus on owning a single channel at a time rather than spreading yourself too thin. Before jumping into tactics, it's important to create a strategy that aligns with your business goals.

Being a technophobe can make social media seem scary or overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be that way. With a little bit of practice, anyone can learn to navigate social media platforms and enjoy the benefits of staying connected with customers and followers. Taking small steps each day can help ease into the world of social media. Remember, it's okay to take breaks and limit usage if it becomes too much.

Which platform is right for my business?

When choosing a social media platform for your business, consider your target audience and where they are most active. For example, B2B businesses may not find much success on TikTok, whereas LinkedIn would be a better fit.

By focusing on one platform, you can create more targeted and effective content, build a stronger presence, and better engage with your audience. Remember, quality over quantity is key when it comes to social media for micro businesses.

Here's a list of popular social media channels and their primary demographics:

  1. Facebook - users of all ages, but primarily aged 25-54, with a slightly higher percentage of female users.
  2. Instagram - primarily aged 18-34, with a slightly higher percentage of female users.
  3. Twitter - primarily aged 18-29, with a slightly higher percentage of male users.
  4. LinkedIn - primarily aged 25-49, with a slightly higher percentage of male users.
  5. Snapchat - primarily aged 13-24, with an even split between male and female users.
  6. Pinterest - primarily female, with the largest age group being 18-29.
  7. TikTok - primarily aged 16-24, with an even split between male and female users.

Keep in mind that these are general demographics and can vary based on location and other factors.

What type of content should I create?

When it comes to creating content for social media, it's important to tailor your approach to the specific platform you're using. For example, visual aesthetic content tends to perform well on Instagram, while Twitter is best for short and snappy updates. Facebook is great for sharing blogs and articles, and LinkedIn is the go-to platform for professional networking and industry insights. It's also important to keep in mind your target audience, and what type of content they are most likely to engage with. By understanding the unique strengths of each social media platform, you can create a more effective and engaging social media strategy for your small business.

  1. First, define your target audience and research what type of content they engage with the most.
  2. Then, craft your content to speak directly to their interests and needs.
  3. Additionally, consider the platform you are using and adjust your content format accordingly. By creating content specific to your audience and channel, you'll increase engagement and build a loyal following.

I don't have any ideas! ??

I use a really simple research and ideation method when I am having uninspiring days. Here's my hack:

Research on Google

  • Choose your niche subject i.e 'What bedding is eco friendly?'
  • Search that phrase in google
  • Scroll down to ‘People also ask’

No alt text provided for this image

  • Copy all the questions that are relevant and add to an excel doc. This content is called 'ever-green' so an be posted at anytime and won't go out of date.

Voila! A shit tonne of inspo for your content education pillar!?Answer these questions as infographics, videos and photos with captions.

?Bonus Hack! ??

To boost your impressions use the hashtag strategy below.

3x3 Hashtag Strategy

  1. 3 hashtags for who your video is for?
  2. 3 hashtags for what the video is about?
  3. 3 hashtags for the problem or pinpoint what it solves?
