Micro betting can generate big revenue from Super Bowl

Super Bowl LIX takes place on February 9 and is one of the biggest betting events of the year for operators offering a premium US sports vertical.

This year’s showdown will again feature the Kansas City Chiefs, who are aiming to become the first team in NFL history to win the championship game for a third successive year.

In a repeat of the Super Bowl in 2023, the Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles and neutrals will hope for a similar meeting after an absorbing contest two years ago saw the Chiefs win 38-35 in Arizona.

New Orleans is the host city this time around and the Eagles will be confident of gaining revenge after an impressive 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game, while the Chiefs were made to work much harder in beating the Buffalo Bills 32-29 for the NFC crown.

The 2023 showdown between the same teams attracted a global TV audience of more than 56 million and the event generates interest around the world, helped by the famous half-time show which this year will be performed by American rapper Kendrick Lamar.

The half-time show plus the stop-start nature of the sport means plenty of opportunity for viewers to get involved in the action with live betting and Altenar’s sportsbook allows operators to make the most of one of the highlights of the sporting calendar.

Promotional tools such as Boosted Odds and the Betslip Boost can be used as part of marketing campaigns in the build-up to the big game, while offering micro betting markets can make a significant difference to revenue.

Altenar partners with leading micro betting providers Kero Sports and nVenue to provide a range of American football markets which are proven to improve engagement, retention and profitability for our sportsbook clients. Odds are offered on a wide variety of markets, such as whether the offense will make a first down on the next play, will the next play be a pass or run and much more.

Rather than just betting on traditional outcomes such as the match result or total points, micro betting offers a fun and exciting alternative which provides faster bet settlement. The use of premium data feeds and reliable technology ensures odds are updated quickly, while Altenar’s improved bet acceptance logic also means more live bets can be accepted.

Matthew Ferrara is Altenar’s Sales Manager for North America and having previously worked at Kero, he is well aware of the benefits of providing a strong micro betting product.

He said: “Micro betting has proven to be extremely popular amongst the American customer base, especially with the rise of social media over the past decade. We see attention spans shrinking and people searching for instant gratification. Micro betting takes those ingredients from social media and applies them to sports betting.”

And as a former college football player, we had to get Matthew’s thoughts on how the big game in New Orleans will go. Can the Eagles soar or will the Chiefs clinch the ‘three peat’?

He added: “The Eagles have been flying to finish out the season, winning 15 of their last 17 games, including a dominant win over my hometown NY Giants. They have proven to be a very well-rounded and well-coached team. The Chiefs, meanwhile, have been business as usual, finding a way to win, no matter how close.?

“For the big game, I predict it will be a storybook ending for the KC Chiefs! Becoming the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls capped off with Travis Kelce proposing to Taylor Swift during the victory celebration. Maybe we should think about adding that market to our offering!”

Matthew is part of the Altenar team heading to NEXT Summit in New York on March 12-13. Book a meeting to learn more about how our innovative sportsbook features, including micro betting, can help your brand grow even in the most competitive markets.
