Michigan Urban Public Education in FULL Collapse
Detroit Public Schools won yet another award reporting their 4th and 8th grade students who tested in English and Math, only 5-7% passed, dead last in Michigan. The last statistic shows 9% of their 3rd graders passed reading. In Michigan if a 3rd grader does not pass, they repeat the grade! Wow, there will be lots of 3rd graders if the parents are brave enough to keep their students in the system.
Highland Park Schools failed some time again and need a restart. Trying to be a solution instead of a complainer, hopefully what we can add will help lift them off of zero, where they are at today.
Hazel Park Schools in the past two weeks dropped their Day Care, their GED program, their Adult-Ed program because they continue to go deeper and deeper in debt. It reminds me of the movie where a steamboat captain going up the Mississippi River in a race had to start consuming the wooden ship to feed the boiler to keep the paddle wheel moving. In the end they finished with the hull of the ship, the steering wheel, the paddle wheel, and the boiler. Looks like Hazel Park is going in that direction.
The list of Public Schools in Michigan in trouble is getting larger every week. Only 44% of the 3rd graders passed reading across the State. How can Michigan compete? Amazon rejected Detroit, large corporations cannot see themselves here because there are not enough viable students progressing through the Public School System to include recruiting for the US Military, Nursing, Engineering, and many other disciplines.
As a solutions strategist the one simple test of a viable education system is about 3rd graders knowing how to read. If they can read a student has a chance to be successful. If you believe that Education is important (not everyone does) then please step up. Don't just nod your head, get involved and help be part of the solution!!
