Michelle Obama Showed Us How To Do It
What would have happened if you would have realized your greatness earlier in your life?
Do you think it would change anything?
Now, I believe God works everything in His timing and he can restore any time that we think we’ve lost. However, I also know that sometimes we sell ourselves short.
Recently this video of two African American girls rapping about education with the rest of their 6th grade class has gone viral. The class hosted an all school assembly, appeared on Good Morning America, and even caught the attention of former First Lady of the United States – Michelle Obama.
The young ladies in the video are rapping about education and are welcoming the onset of subjects such as science, technology, engineering, and math. They’re promoting their 2028 graduation and boldly proclaiming how whether it’s an MBA, Pharm. D, O.D., or Ed.D – they’re going for it.
One of the young ladies even writes:
Michelle Obama showed me how to do it.
?So I’m gonna get it
Educated, motivated, melanated, elevated
I got big shoes to fill, so I’ll do it with class
I’m business, for real
I’m at the top of my class
Entitled “Excellence First,” the breakout stars from Mr. Sims sixth grade class have surely inspired me and others. With nearly 100,000 views on YouTube, it’s these viral moments that remind me to keep aspiring to stay inspired and also spread that energy to others.
Hats off to these twelve year olds who didn’t wait for life, good grades, or anyone else to validate them. I hope their boldness never diminishes.
Kudos to Mr. Sims for encouraging this class to express themselves in a way that is unique and true to them and supports the betterment of both their educational and artistic selves.
As you go into this week – know that you’re already dope. You may not have to rap about it as you go into work (you can if you want to though!), BUT you have everything inside of you to make it happen. The next generation is watching and they’re not waiting. Let’s make sure we set them up for greatness.
I’ll see you next week!
