Miami Film Festival
Tonight, Miami Dade College kicks off the 35th edition of the acclaimed Miami Film Festival.
This year’s Festival showcases 148 feature narratives, documentaries and short films of all genres, produced and directed by both renowned and emerging talent from 50 different countries, including three countries being represented in the Festival’s Official Selection for the first time – Benin, Georgia, and Swaziland.
Four-time Oscar nominated writer, director, and producer Jason Reitman will open the Festival at the Olympia Theater with Tully, his newest collaboration with Oscar winners Charlize Theron and screenwriter Diablo Cody. Additional festival highlights include the legendary French actress Isabelle Huppert, who will receive the Festival’s Precious Gem - Icon Award following the screening of her new film Souvenir, and Spain’s greatest living filmmaker, Carlos Saura, who will be honored with the Festival’s Precious Gem - Master Award after having received the Festival’s Career Achievement Tribute Award in 2003.
Festival attendees can also enjoy the world premiere of Mateo Gil’s The Laws of Thermodynamics as part of the Festival’s prestigious Marquee series, as well as a masterclass with The Florida Project’s Miami-based independent producers Kevin Chinoy and Francesca Silvestri.
