Miami Film Festival celebrates 35th edition success
Miami Dade College's Miami Film Festival has wrapped up a yet another remarkable edition -and its 35th anniversary- with 10 days of film premieres, special events and seminars for movie fans from around the world.
With a world-class lineup of more than 145 feature narratives, documentaries and short films of all genres produced and directed by both renowned and emerging talent from 50 different countries, the Festival remains a top-notch cultural event that showcases some of the best work in the national and international film industry.
While this year's entire film roster was outstanding, several works took home important awards. Here is a list of the winners:
KNIGHT COMPETITION
- Grand Jury Award for best film: A Sort of Family (Argentina), produced by Nicolas Avruj and Diego Lerman
- Best performance: Cesar Troncoso, Another Story of the World (Uruguay)
- Best director: Mateo Gil, The Laws of Thermodynamics (Spain)
KNIGHT DOCUMENTARY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
- When the Beat Drops, produced by World of Wonder Productions
- Liyana, produced by Aaron Kopp, Amanda Kopp, Daniel Junge, Sakhemi Diamini and Davis Combe
- Amigo Skate, Cuba, produced by Vanesa Wilkey-Escobar and Christopher Wedding
KNIGHT MADE IN MIA AWARD
- Gladesmen: The Last of the Sawgrass Cowboys, produced by David Abel and Andy Laub
IMDbPRO SHORT FILM GRAND JURY AWARD
- Mother (Madre), directed by Rodrigo Soroygen (Spain)
RENE RODRIGUEZ CRITICS AWARD
- La Familia, directed by Gustavo Rondon Cordova (Venezuela)
JORDAN RESSLER SCREENWRITING AWARD
- Xavier Legrand, Custody
HBO IBERO-AMERICAN FEATURE FILM AWARD
- La Familia, directed by Gustavo Rondon Cordova (Venezuela)
ZENO MOUNTAIN AWARD
- Carry That Weight: A Rockumentary, directed by Brian J. Leitten
This year, our MFF team expanded the Festival's reach internationally, through an innovative partnership with UniFrance. This alliance allows MFF to develop deeper relationships with representatives in the French movie industry looking to reach the Latin American market.
