When you think about Miami Beach, what thoughts surface —Tropical paradise? Picturesque playground? Sophisticated restaurants, bars + lounges? Art Deco buildings? Lincoln Road? Sexy beaches? South Beach? Quintessential landmarks? Millionaire’s Row? Art Basel? South of Fifth? Yeah, the list goes on, but likely doesn’t include North Beach (NoBe), which sits at the northernmost section of the city from 63rd Street to 87th Street. Why? I bet it’s because you haven’t thought about the Cinderella sister of Mid Beach and South Beach. My suggestion….turn your thoughts on to NoBe where it’s a little more tranquil, local, neighborly, and affordable, at least for now.
Like the Design District, Wynwood, Downtown and Brickell once were, NoBe is poised for revitalization. In fact, this evening (August 31, 2016) planners revealed in a public meeting at the local Byron Carlyle Theater Plan NoBe, which, aims to invigorate, stimulate, and restore the area by implementing “5 Big Ideas,” which include (1) making a town center, (2) providing more mobility options, (3) protecting + enhancing neighborhoods, (4) better utilizing public lands, and (5) building to last. The proposal also includes turning 71st Street, which serves as a main thoroughfare running east/west, into a “downtown” with new zoning permitting building heights of up to 12 stories.
NoBe may be Miami Beach’s short lived “final frontier,” as Plan NoBe and the several new projects now underway are creating a buzz that’s attracting buyers from far and wide. Click here.
