This week marks the opening of the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments. There will be dozens of games played across the country for the right to advance to the Final Four Tournaments in April. Three of those games will be played in Manhattan.
?
We are incredibly fortunate to have a highly ranked women’s team at Kansas State University. Yesterday, the Top 20 K-State women heard their name called on selection Sunday as a No. 4 seed in the Albany Region. Because of the Top 4 seed, Kansas State was named a host for the first and second round of the women’s tournament.
?
The Wildcats will open Friday at 3:30 p.m. against 13-seed Portland. The other game features No. 5-seed Colorado versus 12-seed Drake. The winners of those games play on Sunday. All games are at Bramlage Coliseum. Tickets are available here.

This is the first time Manhattan has played host to the NCAA tournament since 2017 and we couldn’t be more excited. All three visiting teams will be staying in Manhattan hotels and I’m sure you’ll see visitors around town.

As you see fans, players and staff of our visiting teams throughout the three days of the tournament, make sure and give them a friendly MHK welcome. This is a great opportunity to show off our community to guests and show the NCAA and Big 12 that Manhattan is a great spot to host sporting events.

We want to extend our congratulations to the women’s team for a great regular season and look forward to seeing them “win and advance” to the Final Four April 5, in Cleveland.

We also want to extend our congratulations to the Kansas State men’s team. While I’m sure the ending result of an NIT Tournament bid wasn’t the goal for the team when the season started, the team overcame significant challenges to finish with a 19-14 record in the nation’s toughest conference, a noteworthy accomplishment. Good luck to the Wildcats in their NIT journey which begins at 8 p.m. tomorrow in Iowa City against the Hawkeyes.
