MHK Museum Near Opening
Manhattan Area Chamber Of Commerce
A nonprofit organization working to support the business development of MHK to make it a better place to live and work.
Saturday was quite an evening for those who got a sneak peek at the Museum of Art and Light, Manhattan’s newest attraction.
?
The project has been several years in the making and did not disappoint. Nearly 500 people were part of the gala that marked the completion of the construction. Ribbon cutting ceremonies will take place Nov. 8.
?
The museum is the brainchild of and labor of love for Robert and Tracey Debruyn. The longtime Manhattan business leaders began planning this project a few years ago working with state and civic leaders on the massive construction project located on Third and Pierre Streets.
?
The new facility looks like something you would find in Manhattan, NY. The fact that it is actually in our great city will make Manhattan more attractive to visitors and potential residents alike.

The galleries are full of world-class art in a variety of forms including traditional and digital, unique for any art museum. But the obvious center piece of the museum is the Mezmereyz, a ”groundbreaking, multi-sensory, state of the art immersive exhibition”. It is very similar to the Van Gogh traveling exhibit which the Debruyns saw at the Atelier des Lumières in Paris when they began putting this plan together.

The Manhattan exhibition is “Renoir: A Luminous Evolution”. Believe me when I tell you that the pictures on the website do not do this incredible display of the late artist’s work justice. You must see it to believe how incredible the creatives that put this together are at their craft.

I’ve said before that in my nearly 30 years of community economic development, I’ve been approached with many great ideas. However, very few of them on this scale have the capacity to come to fruition. The Debruyns should be celebrated for the persistence and perseverance as well as their philanthropic spirit.

Please go see the facility when it opens in November and make it a point to visit as often as your time and budget permits. This has the potential to be the kind of game changer we’ve only witnessed a few times in our community’s history.
