Mezger Stone Covers The New Texas A&M Veterinary School

Of course, I love this project and all of the projects we have been a part of at Texas A&M University. Why? WHOOP!!! Class of '78!

Built on a very aggressive construction schedule with all the coordination challenges of a project of this scope the new Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Center featured 30,000 square feet of Lueders Buff custom pitched face stone in 12” and 8” nominal course heights, and over 20,000 cubic feet of custom fabricated Lueders Buff honed limestone.

This massive campus project, considered a “once in a lifetime” endeavor by campus administrators, was mapped out in 3 buildings that formed a U shape from a bird’s eye view. Dubbed the VIDI, the VICI, and the VENI, immortalizing the famous phrase from the great Roman General Julius Caesar, “I came, I saw, I conquered”, this project is truly a testament to the resolve of a construction team to finish what it started.

Each section of the project was shop drawn and fabricated in sequences to maximize the efficiency of the fabrication and installation timelines. The $120 million dollar project was completed on a 12 month substantial completion schedule.

Special features include; a horseshoe shaped hallway overlooking the courtyard with a radial stone trimmed balustrade, massive stone clad columns supporting the courtyard canopy structure, a stone pediment at the front entry of the VENI Building with carved letters on a radial face, an iconic Asclepius carving that was a joint effort between the architect and our enterprising draftsmen and carvers, and several statue bases including the horse sculpture radial base out front made from 24” x 16” Lueders solid block that also featured carved letters.

This endeavor was not quite on par with the massive scope and scale of the building of the Roman Empire, but in terms of construction projects, it has to be a close second!
