At SCM we engage children, and the people who care for them, in playful, creative, hands-on exploration and discovery.
关于我们
Our purpose is to encourage kids and adults alike to embrace active, lifelong learning. We create and maintain museum spaces, events and programs that are inclusive, engaging, playful and fun for ALL of the region’s kids and families. We envision a region where children, families, students and educators have a wide network of facilities to support them in learning, engagement, play and quality time together. We will do our part to be part of that network. Our goals are to: - Build relationships and interconnectedness with the early learning community Connect to Seattle’s varied and diverse neighborhoods; - Grow the DNA and lineage of multiculturalism into a new focus on exhibits that have equity, inclusion, diversity, visibility, access and anti-racism built in; - Set the stage for kids to build competency through engagement, opportunities, interactions, and hands-on experiences; - Renew a deep commitment to fostering literacy, language, numeracy and communication skills; - Focus on art, culture, creativity, literacy, innovation and self-actualization for kids.

As an organization with a mission centered on helping children thrive through play and learning, we continue to be devastated as we?witness the catastrophic impacts of the Israel-Hamas war on children and families in the Middle East over the last year, and disproportionately on Palestinian children and families living in Gaza.?We also acknowledge that the violence in Gaza has effects on families?and children in our own community – whether you have personal connections to Gaza, or?you’re trying to answer a child’s questions about?current events. ? It can feel hard to talk to children about traumas that?impact other children. The?escalation of the Israel-Hamas war this?past year may make caregivers feel overwhelmed with?confusion, sadness,?grief, or?fear. We’ve compiled resources that can help you talk to children about challenging topics, learn about and build empathy with children in Gaza, and?identify ways to help children and families in Gaza now. From farm to table in our very own SCM neighborhood ????? In addition to cleaning every nook and cranny of our exhibit spaces this week, our Education Team lead the vision on transforming our Market Exhibit to represent a seasonal Farmer's Market. The enhanced exhibit promotes: ?? Numeracy and early math skills implemented through play vendor booth commerce ?? Visitor-favorite bins (though reshaped into barrels) of products and locally-themed produce supporting play urges and educating on seasonality ?? A brand-new taqueria vendor to introduce and celebrate different cultures, early language skills, and roleplay Check out these changes and watch the market wares rotate throughout the season on your future Museum visits.?#LearningThroughPlay

We spent the rainy morning on Saturday at Ballard's Majestic Bay Theaters with over 200 atendees coming together to support the Museum and enjoy a viewing of Moana. Attendees chose between either a standard viewing or a sensory-friendly showing, accompanied by themed-activities, kicking off what was for many kiddos their first ever trip to the movies! ???? Thank you for hosting, Majestic Bay!
