The Metteverse - Volume 2

Welcome to the second edition of the ‘Metteverse’, my monthly wrap up of everything new to the Microsoft Teams Rooms ecosystem and demonstrating ways to elevate your offering as a MSP with Maverick.

Microsoft Surface Hub

Now, owners of the Microsoft Surface Hub 2S can upgrade it to a Teams Rooms on Windows solution. However, it's important to note that this upgrade is irreversible, and you won't be able to revert to the original version once it's completed.

While migrating to the Teams Rooms on Windows software platform brings certain features to the Surface Hub 2S, some highly sought-after capabilities are exclusive to the Surface Hub 3 hardware. These capabilities are available on either new Surface Hub 3 devices or Surface Hub 2S devices upgraded with a Surface Hub 3 Pack compute cartridge. These features include:

Smart Rotation and Portrait: On the Surface Hub 3 50”, users can physically rotate the device between Portrait or Landscape orientations at any time. This flexibility allows for adjusting the screen layout to better accommodate various activities, such as natural Whiteboarding sessions or more personalized one-on-one calls.

Intelligent Audio: The Surface Hub 3 50” boasts two microphone arrays and speaker pairings. Smart AV technology optimizes audio output based on the device's orientation, ensuring the best stereo experience whether the device is in Portrait or Landscape mode.

Faster Performance: With a notable 60% increase in CPU performance and a remarkable 160% boost in GPU graphics performance compared to the previous generation, Surface Hub 3 users can expect a more powerful system. This enhanced performance not only delivers smoother operation but also positions the device to take full advantage of future software innovations.

Customizable meeting views for Teams Rooms on Android

In a meeting, modifying the layout of the front display in a Teams Room on Android is now simpler. IT administrators also gain increased flexibility in configuring the panel through local device settings. This functionality is accessible across all Teams Rooms licenses.

Control your Teams Room with your Windows PC on both Windows and Android

Previously accessible only on mobile devices, you can now utilize the room remote feature from your Windows PC, offering a convenient and contactless method for room management. To activate the room remote, simply click "Yes" when prompted to control after joining the meeting with room audio, or navigate to the list of meeting participants and select room remote from the dropdown menu by clicking on the room name. This functionality is now accessible for Windows PC users across all Teams Rooms licenses.

Daily maintenance restart window for Teams Rooms on Android devices

By default, a Teams Rooms on Android device is set to restart between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM based on its local time zone, unless it is being used during that time. In that case, the restart is postponed to the next day. IT administrators can disable this feature or modify the restart window from the device settings.
