Article: Startup founders share their reactions on Autumn Budget
This week, on 30th Oct, the government released the Autumn Budget, which includes new rules to control public spending. Public services, like healthcare and education, will get a 2% annual budget increase to keep things running smoothly, and over £100 billion will be invested in housing, transportation, and research over the next five years.
In TechRound ’s most recent article, several startup founders, including our Co-Founder and Director ?? Wil Benton , have provided insights on the budget, discussing its potential impact and offering perspectives on areas for improvement.
Wil says ??: “Individually, I understand the need to fix the fiscal black hole – and am delighted we have what seems to be (mostly) a responsible government willing to attempt the fix. However, I’ve been really frustrated at the government’s positioning that they seemingly don’t consider employers to be working people. I’m also concerned about the lack of foresight about how employers will bear quite the brunt of today’s announced tax changes, and what that will mean for the businesses in question. Even more so given the focus placed on ‘innovation’ driving us out of the tax deficit, and we all know the British innovators are mostly SMEs!”

The Metta team takes Granada ????
As a mostly remote team, we meet a few times a year to discuss strategy and enjoy quality time together ?? This time, we met up in beautiful Granada with our Head of Comms, and new mom ??????, Gaby!
We reflected on the past year’s wins, challenges, and lessons, and shared our personal and organisational goals for the future ??
The trip wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to the stunning Alhambra (photos do not do it justice!) and a fantastic dinner with an authentic Flamenco performance ????. We left feeling inspired by the city’s rich blend of cultures and history ??.
So grateful to be a part of this brilliant team, and thank you everyone for your continued support ?? We can't wait for the next one ??
Interview: On the gender gap in STEM, the benefits of diversity, and male allies
Check out our recent interview blog with our Co-founder & Director Gabriela Matic, where we discuss the gender gap in STEM, the benefits of diversity and more ??
In the interview, we touch on barriers including gender bias, lack of funding and societal expectations and narratives, as well as providing some insight into the economic, social, and innovative benefits of closing the gender gap in STEM.
Gabi says "We still have a long way to go to bridge the gender gap and give women the recognition they deserve for their contributions in the field. The gender gap in STEM is not just an issue of fairness — it’s a barrier to progress."
