The Metropolitan Business League celebrates MBL member and entrepreneur Robyn Roots for her vast accomplishments in the field of nursing, film making and for her tireless service to her community.
Robyn Roots has become a household name in quite a few areas around the states. She is known by many as a nurse by day and film director during evenings and weekends.
Robyn is a native of Tampa, Florida and a graduate of King High School, but she has made her career as a Registered Nurse in Richmond, Virginia for more than thirty years.
Robyn has been a present voice in the renal community, training more than five thousand patients, families, dialysis nurses, physicians and countless church congregations about Renal Disease. She has also been a sought-after expert panelist during her journey as a kidney health coach. She always serves as an advocate for the patient.
Robyn Roots is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and visionary of Klosa Productions. She has been in the film profession for more than six years and has served as Executive Producer and Co-Producer on several film projects, including The Turnaround Movie; Aloha; Truthless; Jump Start; The Hunting of Pottersfield; Poz Roz; The Season; and Courage to Stand.
Mrs. Roots moved expeditiously into the film director’s role when she decided to share her own life in the short film that she wrote and directed called Did Showing Up Save My Life? In celebration of Nurse’s Appreciation Week, Robyn Roots produced and directed a major film project, 2020 Year of the Nurse. That focused on the life of nurses and practitioners and launched in May 2021. It entailed a behind the scenes look at medical professionals of color sharing their experiences during Covid-19 and the impact of racism on the medical field.
Robyn has been interviewed on several platforms thus far concerning this film. The message is noticeably clear regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Mrs. Roots believes in using the media to have courageous, straightforward conversations that are necessary in today’s society.

Regarding her film career aspirations, she said “I want to be able to collaborate on film projects with Ava Duvernay, Tyler Perry, Will Packer, Regina King, and Oprah Winfrey.” In the meantime, Robyn is making a path for herself because she believes as long as she is giving back to her community, the right people at the right time will cross her path.
We asked her to reflect on her impressive career journey during this Black History Month and she shared the following thoughts:
?“ For over three decades, I've donned the nurse's uniform, using my skills to heal and inspire. By day, I'm a caregiver, but as the sun sets, I transform into a film producer—a testament to the resilience and versatility that black women bring to the world. In the realm of entrepreneurship, where the path can be isolating, self-belief becomes the guiding light. Like a tree, we, too, are designed to grow in different directions—geotropic, reaching down into the dirt, and phototropic, striving for the light. The roots we establish in our endeavors are crucial, holding the promise of blessings to come. It's a lonely journey but knowing our purpose and trusting in a higher power keeps us going. As a black woman, I've learned that perseverance and faith lead to a bountiful harvest in due season. So, in the spirit of Black History Month, I encourage fellow black women: to know your calling, trust in God, and fearlessly pursue your dreams.”
