Metrology / Measurement courses
Sometimes life doesn't come with a Sat Nav:
Myself and my metrology lecturing and training team here at Coventry University give lots of advice to manufacturing engineering companies and in their many varied forms. We often find ourselves saying the same things to many varied companies and what we have learnt is that whether you make pins, rivets, cars or aeroplanes you all have similar core issues around controlling measurement. So that experience has gone into building valued measurement and metrology courses. We have our one day courses that carry our certificate of completion or a formal qualification with our Foundation Degree in Metrology. For reference here is a summary of what we do with regards to courses.
Continual Professional Development (CPD). We offer training courses on measurement and Metrology that we deliver here in the UK. One day courses that carry no formal qualification, but give the trainee valuable knowledge combined with applied activities so that they gain understanding of the subject. A Coventry University certificate is issued upon satisfactory completion of the course. These courses include the popular topics GD&T, Coordinate Metrology principles and Introduction to Process Control.
We also deliver the Dimensional Measurement Level 1 and 2 courses certificated by NPL, a three and four day respectively blanket course on measurement.
We also offer metrology induction programmes of one or two week duration which we can run as a summer school. The difference from the short courses is that this time we utilise equipment to develop skill as well as Knowledge and Understanding. This is something we have done for several employers both in the UK and Europe.
Foundation Degree in metrology. This is a two year part time course where we deliver 6 modules per year usually in two day blocks per module. These blocks are delivered approximately once a Month between September and March. The 12 Modules are:
Year 1:
- Study Skills
- Introduction to Metrology
- Mathematics for metrology
- Science for Metrology
- Standards and Traceability
Year2:
- Uncertainty in measurement
- Measurement Systems Analysis
- Coordinate Metrology
- In process measurement
- Work based Project (Double module)
After each module a work based assignment is set that the student works on between each module which we then assess. This is generally a written report around the module subject but related to a real measurement issue. Usually this project can be woven into the students work role so benefitting their employer whilst they learn. This UK delivered course carries 240 CATS and a Foundation degree award that is 120 ECTS European academic credits.
