Metrology master class
For those that have seen my earlier posts over our metrology programme, as promised here is the detail and some background.
Coventry Metrology Group are a team of 7 people within the school of Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering at Coventry University. We focus on manufacturing engineering metrology, principally dimensional but those lines often blur across several S.I. Units. We offer consultancy, training, education and research in that subject. We are a mix of experienced measurement specialists, metrologists and academics that deliver applied metrology. That is we have the scientific theory but also recognise that theory and practice do not always look the same. Metrology is all about the three R’s, Ratios – Risks – Resources. Understanding what your capabilities and limitations are in all three are crucial to any benefit to be gained from investing in metrology.
Our metrology delivery proves very popular with both the candidates and their companies and this course is the pinnacle of our professional development products in measurement and metrology. This specialist week long course is based here at Coventry University and takes the form of a series of themed sessions, usually four core session followed by a small test of understanding each day, the assessment is so we gain appreciation of candidate understanding and is not a pass / fail test. It is ran over a five consecutive days, Monday to Friday and we provide all materials and equipment as well as refreshments and a buffet lunch.
The course is proposed at £1,475 per person and to run as a summer school in early July, subject to sufficient numbers to make the course commercially viable and early registration of interest so we have time to plan the logistics. The nearly 4,500 views of my initial post over this course suggest interest is high and as we limit numbers so that everyone gets the appropriate time on equipment and to engage with the team, please register interest early. No need to fully commit just register interest.
This course is designed for roles relating to quality / production / manufacturing engineers with responsibility for facilitating and managing measurement processes and metrology tools and also purchasing metrology equipment. It also meets the needs of metrology equipment technical sales and measurement contract services providers.
The learning outcomes are:
An understanding of the core underpinning principles of effective measurement and related metrology tools.
- How to achieve confidence in measurement results attained (some of the ratios).
- Selecting appropriate equipment and strategies for measurement, (some of the resources).
- An understanding of core technologies utilised in measurement equipment with their strengths and weaknesses (some of the risks).
In addition we will promote a questioning approach that will fuel continuous improvement back in your companies, enabling waste reduction.
The basis of the course is industrial dimensional measurement and generally covers four core knowledge groups.
- Underpinning knowledge
- Measurement techniques and equipment types
- Base Technologies in sensors / equipment
- Metrology tools and techniques
These are delivered in a variety of ways over the week.
- Lectures, presentations with some group interaction and minor activities
- Activity sessions, using and introducing a variety of measuring equipment and processes, applying knowledge sessions with live examples
- Discussions, led by the lecturer these sessions draw out examples from the group and then discuss them
I hope this gives you the information that you need to decide if this is for you, if you have any more question please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or to register interest. A full itinerary is available on request.
