The metrics behind not following your truth

The metrics behind not following your truth

It has certainly been an interesting experiment over the past few weeks as I tried to do something different. I saw an immediate drop in engagement. So let's start with that.

Over the last 100 odd articles that I wrote, more than a few have had a pretty decent run. With as many as 150,000 views and numerous with 50,000 plus, it was fair to say that I was stunned with the organic reach that I was getting here on Linked In as I shared my daily story.

What happened as I changed my format is that the numbers went to zero. Part of the reason that I wrote the way I did, was I'm not particularly interested in the showboating of business. I'm interested in the process. That's the part that fascinates me. That's the place that we deal with day in and day out.

Not the shareable highlight reel.

It was pretty clear that the wider audience here wasn't super interested either. Because I've got to be honest, there are so many marketing experts that it's exhausting. I can help with that stuff and I've got a whole lot of experience, but the funny part is, that all my advice in marketing comes down to process and metrics.

As I reviewed the metrics of my personal profile here on Linked In, it was pretty clear that it wasn't working. I'm pretty happy about that to be honest.

Because yesterday I flipped the table and went back to doing whatever the hell I wanted.

You know what happened?

The numbers immediately went up. See the little kick on the last number marker? That uptick is yesterday.

So I'm going to get right back to doing whatever I want. Let's face it, that's what I've done my entire life anyway. A lot of people over a lot of years have told me that my ideas won't work.

I'm cool with that.
