The Methods War with Disciplined Agile and The Spotify Model
The Methods War post by Comic Agilé tells more than thousand words. It talks about #SAFe, #Scrum, #Kanban and #LeSS, but not about #disciplinedagile and the #SpotifyModel. They are both different than these other frameworks. However, they are not liberated from the crazy things, the whole picture of these are presented in https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/some-craziest-things-working-methods-frameworks-ivar-jacobson/.
They are also participants in the methods war. They don't yet stand on a common ground. They have no support for bridging the gap between learning and doing. However, both frameworks essentially escape the method prison problem, since they don't describe all practices themselves but just discuss them briefly. They don't provide an ecosystem of practices...yet. With #Essence they will also do that.
However, there is hope for DA. I and my team have worked with Scott W. Ambler on essentializing a key practice in DAD, namely Database Refactoring. Scott wrote a blog titled “Disciplined Agile and Essence: Succeeding Together” https://disciplinedagiledelivery.com/essence01/, in which Scott says: “We also intend to continue with this essentialization effort to share some of the key DA techniques within Essence. Stay tuned!” See also many great tweets from my friends Scott and Mark Lines, for instance the blog https://www.projectmanagement.com/blog/blogPostingView.cfm?blogPostingID=61959&thisPageURL=/blog-post/61959/Disciplined-Agile-and-Essence--Succeeding-Together#_=_

Also, for the Spotify Model there is hope. One of its founders Joakim Sundén is working with my team and @StefanMalich to essentialize the Spotify Model. Stay tuned.?
Scrum and Scrum@Scale by #JeffSutherland are already essentialized. @TomGilb has “donated” his work to Essence for essentialization, and many more are underway.

3 年In DA there is a lot of work if you will cover all the DA toolkit. I hope you get to add more practices from the other methods to the "library" of essencialized practices. I have read your book and find Essence to be very very interesting. I'm just sad that I didn't had the time to use it when I was designing a method during my PhD thesis!
