The method of annealing stainless steel wire
The annealing of stainless steel materials is divided into general annealing and bright annealing. Among them, the surface brightness of stainless steel materials after bright annealing is better. Both methods will not affect the hardness. The premise is to anneal according to the original factory specifications.
General Annealing
It refers to the annealing without protective gas, such as the continuous unwinding furnace heated by the open fire. This kind of annealed strip also needs to be pickled to remove the iron oxide scale generated during the annealing process on the surface. Corrosion, the surface roughness decreases, so the gloss is poor, and the surface looks white and not bright.
What is bright annealing?
Bright annealing is an essential process for stainless steel wire, for recrystallizing the work-hardened austenitic stainless steels and drawing chromium carbides, precipitated around the work-hardened stainless steels, into the solution. In addition, this treatment removes stresses occurred during cold working.
Annealing of stainless steels is carried out at temperatures greater than 1040℃, but certain types of steel can be annealed at very controlled temperatures of below 1010℃° while considering fine grain size. The annealing the austenitic stainless steel wire is carried out in tube where oxygen is replaced by nitrogen with dry hydrogen, then cooled in the tube with water cooling. The wire should be clean before annealing and gas protected to avoid oxidization. The atmosphere quality required is -40℃~-50℃ on a dew point scale.
The bright annealed wire will be drawn to finish wire size or sold as redraw wire.
Bright Annealed Stainless Steel Wire
The majority of companies that manufacture stainless steel wire use bright annealing as part of their processing procedures, although some choose not to do this as part of their normal production processes.
