Celebrating technical excellence and collaboration: National Gas Metering Enhances Brewery’s Infrastructure

The Project undertaken by National Gas Metering's Gas Connections and Infrastructure Team, is a shining example of technical complexity and seamless collaboration between various stakeholders.

A prominent brewery, found itself in need of a new natural gas supply to support its Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system and production facilities. Tasked with the responsibility of executing this crucial project, the company installing the CHP system and managing the project on behalf of the brewery, enlisted the expertise of National Gas Metering.

The scope of the project was substantial, requiring meticulous planning and execution. National Gas Metering embarked on installing a new gas main spanning 875 meters of 180mm MDPE pipe at medium pressure, alongside a new service line comprising 11 meters of 125mm PE pipe. Additionally, the team was tasked with installing a 16M twin-stream rotary meter complete with a kiosk and base. Completing the network, outlet pipework of 144 meters of 180mm pipework was installed to ensure efficient distribution of gas within the brewery's premises.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this project was the team's adeptness at minimising disruptions, particularly with respect to traffic flow. By collaborating closely with local authorities and adhering to stringent safety protocols, National Gas Metering managed to carry out the works without necessitating a road closure. This feat not only underscored the team's commitment to operational efficiency but also alleviated potential inconvenience for the surrounding community.

Moreover, the project presented a unique challenge in the form of a 100-meter section that needed to be traversed beneath a culvert. Utilising innovative directional drilling techniques (HDD), the team successfully navigated this obstacle, ensuring the seamless continuity of the gas infrastructure without compromising environmental integrity.

The continued works at the brewery is a testament to the professionalism, expertise, and collaborative spirit embodied by National Gas Metering's Gas Connections and Infrastructure Team. By delivering a robust and reliable gas supply solution, the team has not only facilitated the brewery’s operational needs but has also contributed to the sustainable growth of the local economy.

National Gas Metering and Age UK Join Forces to Raise Awareness on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

In an increasingly interconnected world, the significance of safeguarding our elderly population cannot be overstated. Recognising this, National Gas Metering has partnered with Age UK to raise awareness of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a global observance held annually on June 15th. This collaboration aims to shed light on the often-overlooked issue of elder abuse, which can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and neglect.

Understanding Elder Abuse

Elder abuse is a pervasive issue that affects millions of seniors worldwide. It can occur in various settings, including private homes, residential care facilities, and hospitals. The abuse may be perpetrated by family members, caregivers, or strangers, making it a complex and multifaceted problem that requires a concerted effort to address Age UK's Mission

Age UK has long been at the forefront of advocating for the rights and well-being of older people. Their mission is to ensure that every elderly person is treated with dignity and respect. By working with National Gas Metering, Age UK is able to extend its reach and impact, ensuring that more people are aware of the signs of elder abuse and know how to seek help.

The Importance of Awareness

Raising awareness is a crucial first step in combating elder abuse. Many cases go unreported due to a lack of awareness or fear of retaliation. By shining a light on this issue, National Gas Metering and Age UK are helping to break the silence and encourage more people to come forward.

Public awareness campaigns can lead to increased reporting and, consequently, more effective interventions. Educating the public on the different forms of elder abuse and how to recognize them can help prevent abuse and support victims in getting the help they need.

How You Can Help

Everyone has a role to play in preventing elder abuse. Here are some ways you can contribute:

1. Stay Informed: Educate yourself about the signs of elder abuse and share this knowledge with others.

2. Reach Out: If you suspect that an elderly person is being abused, reach out to them and offer your support. Encourage them to seek help and report the abuse to the authorities.

3. Volunteer: Consider volunteering with organisations like Age UK that work to support the elderly and prevent abuse.

4. Advocate: Use your voice to advocate for stronger protections and support services for the elderly in your community and beyond.

Puppy Socialising at Birmingham Dogs Home

Birmingham Dogs Home has been facing a significant challenge over the past 18 months: a dramatic increase in the number of pregnant dogs being abandoned at their most vulnerable. These expectant mothers require the utmost care to ensure they can deliver their litters in a safe environment. The care doesn't end there; the puppies born also need continuous attention and assurance, especially after potentially traumatic births.

The Importance of Early Socialisation

For puppies, the first 4-12 weeks of life are critical for socialisation. During this period, they need to interact with humans to develop healthy behavioural patterns and become well-adjusted pets. Proper socialization during this formative period helps prevent future behavioural issues and ensures the puppies grow up to be friendly and confident dogs.

Colleagues Stepping Up

Recognising the importance of this early socialisation, colleagues from across our business have been volunteering their time at Birmingham Dogs Home. Their dedication and compassion have been instrumental in providing the much-needed human interaction that these puppies require. By spending time with the puppies, our colleagues help them adapt to human presence, learn to trust, and develop positive associations that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Continuing the Effort

As Birmingham Dogs Home continues to face challenges with abandoned pregnant dogs, the need for volunteers remains critical. We encourage more colleagues and community members to get involved and support this noble cause. By dedicating just a few hours of your time, you can make a significant difference in the lives of these puppies and their future families.

Together, we can ensure that these puppies receive the best start in life, surrounded by care, attention, and the socialisation they need to thrive. Thank you once again to all our dedicated volunteers for your compassion and generosity.
