Metaverse Masterminds: Conversations with Swiss Industrial Metaverse Conference Speakers Melanie Tschugmall & Ravi Singh
Welcome to the fifth edition of "Metaverse Masterminds," our series of insightful conversations with the distinguished speakers of the Swiss Industrial Metaverse Conference. In this edition, we are excited to feature Melanie Tschugmall and Paulina Palin , both EMBA students at the University of Strathclyde with a passion for exploring the Metaverse's potential impact on the tech industry. Together, they will discuss the Metaverse's transformative power on the tech industry, delving into its implications for the war for talent, market dynamics, and the industrial environment.
The original interview was in German. This is an English translation.
1. Why should small and medium-sized industrial enterprises also pay attention to the Metaverse, and what opportunities or competitive advantages can they gain by embracing this technology in their business?
Melanie & Ravi: We believe that the main point and the biggest argument is the so-called "Kodak effect". In other words, you can't just sit on the sidelines and ignore major, transformative technological movements. Should you change your entire business model? No - but it is important to think strategically about the issue and be aware of your own future relevance to the market. Strategic discussion, open scenario thinking and, above all, proactive trial and error are important. An open exchange with (end) customers in the sense of co-innovation and a clear market-driven design thinking approach also help. After all, successful innovation is only what the market accepts and is willing to pay for.
2. What advice would you give to aspiring professionals who are interested in pursuing a career in Metaverse technology and its related fields?
Melanie & Ravi: In general, we think it's important to keep up with the latest technological trends, especially in an industry like this. This is not just about digitization or technology issues per se, as these are increasingly influenced by other (social) megatrends such as demographics, which in turn have a direct impact on the war for talent and thus the development of the metaverse. In the context of digitization, it is also important to acquire and develop transferable (soft) skills that cannot be automated away. A first step is therefore, in addition to your own research and literature, to go to networking events, talk to experts and simply immerse yourself in the metaverse.
