The Metaverse: The internet of the future, today
Although the Metaverse isn’t exactly a new concept, there has been a lot of excitement and developments in it over the past few years.
With the increased popularity in virtual, augmented and mixed realities, the metaverse is gaining momentum, enabling users to go about a normal conversation as an avatar in a ‘different world’. Although the creation of these new worlds is a huge driving force in the demand for the Metaverse, according to a report by the World Economic Forum , the true benefits of the metaverse are actually coming from the integration of physical and digital worlds.
In order to make digital worlds compatible and enjoyable for everyone, tech giants including Meta , 微软 , Epic Games and many more have formed the Metaverse Standards Forum.
“Building a metaverse for everyone will require an industry-wide focus on common standards. The Metaverse Standards Forum can drive the collaboration that’s needed to make this possible, and Meta is committed to this work. Creators, developers and companies will all benefit from the technologies and experiences that will be made possible by common protocols,” - Vishal Shah , Vice President of Metaverse at Meta.
Back in June of last year, we were lucky enough to host an array of amazing speakers at Tech & AI LIVE London, some of whom spoke about the Metaverse and some of the issues already coming to light. Give them a watch below!
Nina Jane Patel , Co-Founder of Kabuni , spoke about the fundamental issue of safety in the Metaverse.
